As Director for Solar Solution, JD directs and oversees operational activities. This includes business development strategies, overseeing policies, objectives, and initiatives for operations and sales. Responsible for evaluating current and proposed systems and procedures, and also determining and implementing changes as necessary.
Prior to joining Solar Solution, JD worked in Business Development at POLITICO, where he was responsible for the launching of POLITICO’s real-time policy news and products for government agencies and Hill offices in Washington DC. Before POLITICO, JD’s previous work was focused in Sales, Business Development, and IT.
JD is originally from Dallas, but he also has worked and studied for several years in the Jordan, making him fluent in Arabic and also an expert on the region. He graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science specializing in International studies and minoring in Arabic. While he has enjoyed growing up in the Lone Star State, he relocated to D.C. in the summer of 2012 to begin his Master’s degree at the Johns Hopkins University, where he studied Global Security Studies with a focus on Energy and Environmental Security. Witnessing Jordan’s energy and water crisis at an early age drove his passion to identify solutions through renewable energy for the average household, cities, and even nations around the world. His work doing that started right here in Washington DC with Solar Solution by allowing him to work directly with the local residents and government simultaneously to produce real and measurable results.
Max Rivera is currently the construction manager for Solar Solution. He is a Certified Carpenter and has been working in the construction field since 2009. Max joined Solar Solution’s team in 2012 as Lead Installer and using his expertise to design special fitted systems on DC homes. Our special design installing on flat rooftop row-houses in DC with minimal penetrations and no weight applied into the roof was Max’s artistic creation and is now being used by other installers in the region. Max’s superior technical skills, leadership skills, and excellent customer service has led Max to the top of his construction team where he now manages all construction and electrical crews, in addition to material acquisitions. Max is a native of Maryland where he lives with his wife and two beautiful children.
Samantha joined as the Executive Assistant for Solar Solution in the summer of 2017. She handles a wide variety of duties, including SREC and records management. She ensures the smooth transition of various administrative procedures that are necessary for customers to enjoy the full spectrum of solar power. Before joining Solar Solution, Samantha studied political science and economics at the University of Arizona. In her free time, she sings for various events and partakes in recreational tennis.
Commercial Project Manager
Antonio Johnson started with Solar Solution in spring of 2015. Since joining our team he has done it all, starting as a System’s Designer, moving up to Sales Coordinator, to Senior Sales Consultant. In his current role, he serves as Solar Solution’s Commercial Project Manager, handling all aspects on the front end with business-to-business agreements for solar projects. He has a B.S. from the University of Memphis and studied software engineering at Fairfield University. Antonio holds certifications from SunPower University in Commercial Advantage Selling in addition to Advanced Residential Sales. He prides himself in being involved with expanding the District’s Renewable Portfolio Standard and is dedicated to helping make solar the most affordable form of renewable energy in the Washington, D.C. Metro Area.
Since college, Antonio has lived and worked along the east coast from South Florida to Connecticut. He enjoys foreign travel and spending time with his son.
Sales Coordinator – Junior Consultant
James Sheats has been a Sales Associate with Solar Solution since early 2015 and works closely with residents and business owners to provide them with site-specific solar energy proposals. Studying in the Mediterranean nation of Malta earned him Master’s degrees in Sustainable Environmental Resources Management and Integrated Science and Technology from the University of Malta and James Madison University, respectively. His graduate research focused on the quality of storm water runoff from green roof substrates. James also received his Bachelor’s Degree in Integrated Science and Technology where he was introduced to renewable energy concepts and completed grant-funded research on the feasibility of implementing a nutrient trading program in the Shenandoah Valley. In addition to his passion for sustainability, James acts as the office IT professional.
Solar Energy Sales Consultant
Kathleen dePorter is a Solar Energy Sales Consultant and head of DC’s government low-income Solar Advantage Program at Solar Solution LLC. Starting off as a canvasser at Solar Solution in 2014, Kathleen has made her way up the chain from a part-time canvasser to becoming a fulltime employee as a sales coordinator, to her current position as a senior sales consultant. She is the first point of contact for homeowners and business owners looking to qualify for government rebate programs. Before joining the Solar Solution team, Kathleen was a student at the University of Delaware studying Environmental Studies and Political Science, with a concentration in Environmental Policy, Politics, and Law. In Kathleen’s free time, she enjoys DC’s underground comedy scene and doing improv.
Solar Energy Sales Consultant
As a native Washingtonian, Ernesto has cultivated great relationships with local and small business owners and residents of the DMV. He has achieved this through providing top notch customer service with over 13 years of sales experience. He lives in Maryland with his beautiful wife and three young children. Ernesto’s passion for solar is fueled by his desire to leave behind a cleaner world for his children.
Solar Energy Sales Consultant
Melissa DeSomma is a native to the Washington DC Metropolitan Area. Her current position as a Solar Energy Sales Consultant allows her to introduce, into her local communities, the amazing benefits solar can provide! With an Academic background in Environmental Management and Sustainability through the University of Maryland School System, she is able to guide Clientele into transforming our Energy future into a clean and robust one. With over 10 Years of sales and management experience, Melissa is able to utilize her skills to facilitate each project with precision and her passion for environmental stewardship provides the purpose. Outside of her solar work, Melissa enjoys creative artistic projects, drawing, and getting outside to hike or go cycling.
Jasmin is a Native Washingtonian and has been a Sales and Marketing Coordinator at Solar Solution since June 2016. Jasmin has an extensive background in sales and client services being a part time Realtor in Washington, DC. Jasmin also has a passion for the Arts, she is Fashion Designer and Artist. She received her Bachelors’ Degree from Sarah Lawrence College, the following year she received her Associate Degree in Applied Science in Fashion Design from Parsons the New School for Design. In her free time she enjoys traveling, staying active and building her fashion brand j.CARMEN.
Jeff Cheng is a native Washingtonian with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Maryland at College Park. He has always been interested in the forefront of science and technology. Jeff has been an engineer with Solar Solution since the beginning of 2016. He performs the whole engineering process from conducting roof frame assessments to engineering drawings and plans to managing the permitting process in the DMV county and city offices. Jeff also works closely under our Structural Professional Engineer for larger commercial projects that require intensive and careful measurements and calculations. Since his time at Solar Solution, he has worked on more than 600 projects.

Our solar canvassers are the first point of contact to educate homeowners and business owners the benefits to go solar. Our solar canvassers include (from right to left) Sean Richardson, Eyuel, and Isaac Axtmann. All three canvassers are full-time students working for Solar Solution for the summer. Sean is studying Civil and Environmental
Engineering, and Eyuel Chemical Engineering, both at the University of Maryland, College Park. Isaac is studying computer engineering at Elizabethtown College, Elizabethtown, PA. All three are bright individuals and passionate about solar energy and making a personal impact by shaping the future of our planet with clean energy.
