Chief Operation Officer
Ben Breiterman has been a Solar Consultant at Solar Solution LLC since 2010 and is one of the most experienced members of the Solar Sol worksdirectly with home owners and commercial developers to design solar PV systems unique to each site. Mr. Breiterman has been very active in analyzing financial returns for large project owners and developing growth within the company’s commercial portfolio.
Prior to joining Solar Solution, Mr. Breiterman received his Bachelor’s degree from Stony Brook University where he was Vice President of the school’s Environmental Club for two years. Ben received his degree in Environmental Studies and completed an internship within the Marine Science Research Center at Stony Brook, where he assisted post-doctoral researchers with experiments concerning marine toxicology and carbon sequestration.
Ben is an avid Washington sports fan and played Ice Hockey for over 20 years, including 4 years on the Stony Brook University Hockey Team. If he’s not at the office, at a sporting event or a museum downtown, you can probably find Ben in Rock Creek Park with his Pitbull enjoying the beautiful scenery in all four seasons.
As Executive Director for Solar Solution, JD directs and oversees operational activities. This includes business development strategies, overseeing policies, objectives, and initiatives for operations and sales. Responsible for evaluating current and proposed systems and procedures, and also determining and implementing changes as necessary. Focus is not limited to existing teams and operations in current markets, but also the pursuit of new opportunities nationally.
Prior to joining Solar Solution, JD worked in Business Development at POLITICO, where he was responsible for the launching of POLITICO’s real-time policy news and products for government agencies and Hill offices in Washington DC. Before POLITICO, JD’s previous work was focused in Sales, Business Development, and IT.
JD is originally from Dallas, but he also has worked and studied for several years in the Middle East, making him fluent in Arabic and also an expert on the region. He graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science specializing in International studies and a minor in Arabic . While he has enjoyed growing up in the Lone Star State, he relocated to D.C. in the summer of 2012 to begin his Master’s degree at the Johns Hopkins University, where he is studying Global Security Studies with a focus on Energy and Environmental Security.
Mr. Atta Kiarash has a master’s degree from George Washington University and BA degree from George Mason University and is currently the construction manager for Solar Solution. His work has taken him to various agencies in the private and public sectors which have given Mr. Kiarash a special perspective in both sectors. Mr. Kiarash also has extensive experience in construction as a Project Manager overseeing the daily construction or residential and commercial clients.
Alexa Riland is an Office Manager for Solar Solution LLC. Alexa works with the utility company to interconnect each customer to the grid. She also works with organizing, and distributing Solar renewable energy certificates (SRECs) to home owners and businesses providing them with the benefits of the Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS). Currently, Alexa is aiding in the expansion of Solar Solution to new states while working with the current customers to obtain testimonials for the system installed.
Robert Valette joined Solar Solution in 2010. As a project manager, Robert oversees multiple projects, residential and commercial for the DC, Maryland and Virginia region. With over 900 solar systems completed, Mr. Valette has extensive experience in solar system design, incorporating a broad range of products to customize each project to best fit the customer’s goals. Mr. Valette has also been the lead manager for solar bulk purchase programs.Prior to joining Solar Solution, Mr. Valette was director of a community based solar advocacy and development group – Solar On. Solar On helped educate Washington DC residents on all aspects of going solar, and managed PV system installs from start to finish. Previously he also consulted with such organizations as The League of Conservation Voters and World Wildlife Fund.Robert was one of the first DC residents to install solar at his home, a 100 year old house that he has been steadily renovating. He is also a huge Arsenal supporter, and travelled to England to watch the Gunners play.
Solar Energy Sales Consultant
Antonio Johnson has been a Senior Consultant at Solar Solution LLC since 2015. Prior to this role within the company, he worked as a system designer and junior consultant. He has a B.S. from the University of Memphis and studied software engineering at Fairfield University. Antonio holds a certification in SunPower Advanced Residential Sales. He prides himself in being involved with expanding the District’s Renewable Portfolio Standard and is dedicated to helping make solar the most affordable form of renewable energy in the Washington, D.C. Metro Area.
Since college, Antonio has lived and worked along the east coast from South Florida to Connecticut. He enjoys foreign travel and spending time with his son.
Sales Coordinator – Junior Consultant
James Sheats has been a Sales Associate with Solar Solution since early 2015 and works closely with residents and business owners to provide them with site-specific solar energy proposals. Studying in the Mediterranean nation of Malta earned him Master’s degrees in Sustainable Environmental Resources Management and Integrated Science and Technology from the University of Malta and James Madison University, respectively. His graduate research focused on the quality of storm water runoff from green roof substrates. James also received his Bachelor’s Degree in Integrated Science and Technology where he was introduced to renewable energy concepts and completed grant-funded research on the feasibility of implementing a nutrient trading program in the Shenandoah Valley. In addition to his passion for sustainability, James acts as the office IT professional.
Solar Energy Sales Consultant
Kathleen dePorter is a Solar Energy Sales Consultant and head of DC’s government low-income Solar Advantage Program at Solar Solution LLC. Starting off as a canvasser at Solar Solution in 2014, Kathleen has made her way up the chain from a part-time canvasser to becoming a fulltime employee as a sales coordinator, to her current position as a senior sales consultant. She is the first point of contact for homeowners and business owners looking to qualify for government rebate programs. Before joining the Solar Solution team, Kathleen was a student at the University of Delaware studying Environmental Studies and Political Science, with a concentration in Environmental Policy, Politics, and Law. In Kathleen’s free time, she enjoys DC’s underground comedy scene and doing improv.
Solar Energy Sales Consultant
As a native Washingtonian, Ernesto has cultivated great relationships with local and small business owners and residents of the DMV. He has achieved this through providing top notch customer service with over 13 years of sales experience. He lives in Maryland with his beautiful wife and three young children. Ernesto’s passion for solar is fueled by his desire to leave behind a cleaner world for his children.
Sales Coordinator – Junior Consultant
Alice Goldberg has been with Solar Solution LLC since June of 2015. She started as a canvasser, moved into Canvassing Coordinating and then transitioned to Junior Consultant, working to provide solar proposals and ongoing customer service for our customers. This summer she is continuing to work as both a Junior Consultant and as the Canvassing Coordinator, training and working with a team of three awesome canvassers who are working to get the word out about going solar!
Just before joining the team, Alice graduated with a Master’s degree in Environmental and Energy policy from the University of Maryland, College Park (May 2015) and the year before that she received her BA from Maryland in Government and Politics (May 2014). During her time in College Park, Alice completed an internship with the International Energy Agency (IEA) Hydrogen Implementing Agreement and another with Maryland State Delegate Jeff Waldstreicher. She also served in leadership roles in several organizations-Tau Beta Sigma, The Mighty Sound of Maryland, and Mortar Board.
Currently, Alice works in the community as an organizer and Social Chair for the Young Souls-a young adult group associated with All Souls Unitarian Church in DC. Before Alice moved to DC, she was the leader of the Young Adult group at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Arlington. While serving in these roles, Alice is the lead coordinator for many different events such as large group camping trips, fundraisers, and the promotion of social justice actions in the DC Metro area.
Our Solar Canvassers
Our solar canvassers are the first point of contact to educate homeowners and business owners the benefits to go solar. Our solar canvassers include (from right to left) Sean Richardson, Eyuel, and Isaac Axtmann. All three canvassers are full-time students working for Solar Solution for the summer. Sean is studying Civil and Environmental Engineering, and Eyuel Chemical Engineering, both at the University of Maryland, College Park. Isaac is studying computer engineering at Elizabethtown College, Elizabethtown, PA. All three are bright individuals and passionate about solar energy and making a personal impact by shaping the future of our planet with clean energy.
